Fifty-eight-year-old Kenny Johnson, a native of Martinsburg, West Virginia, lost his left arm due to polio at the age of six. While attending his music-filled church, he became curious about how to play the instruments. He didn't get a lot of encouragement from the musicians when he asked for help. They would say, "You can't play. You only have one arm." Finally after much prodding, one picker showed Kenny some chords. Soon after the lessons. he started playing the bass guitar. The year was 1984. Now, Kenny also plays the acoustic guitar, piano, and harmonica. Everywhere Kenny performs, he always give a message. He says, "I play the guitar with my left hand: God plays the right hand. If there's a mistake in playing, it's the left hand. God doesn't make mistakes." "Thank You, Brother Ed" is a song Kenny wrote and is a tribute to the man who taught him guitar chords and is on his "Sharing a Dream" CD. On September 10, 2010, Kenny was inducted into the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame. Kenny's mission is "Have Guitar Will Travel" with his message of inspiration. |
