In a Dutch oven on medium heat, place the ham bone into the pot, then add chicken broth, water, seasonings, onion, carrots, and celery. Stir, then add dried beans and bay leaves.

Cover and bring it to a low boil, then let it simmer covered on medium-low, stirring every 20 minutes for about 1 ½ to 2 hours. 

 

 

Once the beans are cooked, uncover and remove the ham bone. Then add the diced ham and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove the bay leaves and serve with some warm cornbread. It’s also delicious served over rice.

  • 1 Medium Sweet Onion (diced)
  • 1 cup Carrots (diced)
  • 1 cup Celery (diced)
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups Cooked Ham (diced)
