What you need to make Sweet Vadalia Onion Dip:

2  Cups Sweet Onions (finely diced)

1½ Cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese (shredded)

8  Slices American Cheese (cut into quarters)

¾  Cup Mayonnaise

4  Tbsp. Green Onions (chopped/ divided)

How to make Sweet Onion Dip:

To make this sweet Vidalia onion dip, preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl, add Vadalia onions, cheddar cheese, American cheese, mayonnaise, and 2 tbsp. green onions.  Mix together until well combined.

Spoon the mixture into a lightly greased 1-quart baking dish.  Then place in the oven and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.

Can I substitute Vidalia onions with other types of onions in sweet onion dip?

While Vidalia onions are traditionally used in sweet onion dip for their unique sweetness, you can substitute them with other sweet onion varieties such as Walla Walla, Maui, or Texas Sweet onions. However, keep in mind that the flavor profile might differ slightly. If you can’t find sweet onions, you can use regular yellow onions, but the dip may have a stronger and more pungent onion taste.
